Panel Discussion with Sonié Joi Thompson-Ruffin, Quraysh Ali Lansana, and Emma Willis

Date: Juneteenth, Wednesday, June 18th. 2025
Time: 5:30 PM - 8PM
Location: Great Hall, Crystal Bridges Museum of Art

The Potency of Black Culture: This discussion delves into the profound and lasting impact of Black cultural expression, particularly as it manifests within our tri-state region. Through the distinct yet interconnected artistic practices of our esteemed guests, textile artist Sonié Joi Thompson-Ruffin and literary artist Quraysh Ali Lansana, we will examine how Black art, in its myriad forms, serves as a vital chronicle of history, a vibrant assertion of identity, and a powerful catalyst for contemporary dialogue and understanding. We aim to illuminate the enduring relevance and transformative power inherent in Black creative traditions and their ongoing contributions to the cultural tapestry of our communities and the nation.
