Fall Natural Dyeing: Wool and Silk
by Hillfolk
Sunday, November 13th
1:00-4:00 PM
Join textile artist Olivia Clanton and learn the beautiful art of natural dyeing with fresh & dried flowers and other fall seasonal vegetation! In this classic natural dye class, students will learn the basics to create a variety of colors using raw materials such as walnut, marigold, osage, coreopsis, cochineal bugs and indigo. Using these materials, we will use the vat technique and bundle dye technique to dye on silk and wool.
Each participant will have everything they need to dye 1 silk bandana and 1 skein of Hillfolk SPORT/DK wool yarn from sheep raised on Cactus Hill Farms. You will leave the class with confidence in natural dye concepts such as mordanting cellulose and protein fibers, bundle dye, vat dyeing and color interactions with indigo—and of course your bandana & naturally dyed yarn to use in any woven, knit or crochet project you desire!
All class participants receive 15% off of any purchase made at Hillfolk on the day of the workshop.
