Join textile artist Bea Apple for an in-depth exploration in Indigo surface design techniques! Students will learn how to make and sustain a natural indigo vat and create traditional Shibori patterns, an ancient Japanese resist dye technique. Bea will walk students through several designs and examples of each before being set free to create designs of your own. After students complete their sample swatches, students will get two cotton bandanas to experiment their favorite technique with.

Dye aprons will be provided (unless you want to join the blue hands club). There may be some drips so be sure to wear something you wouldn’t mind getting some dye on.

All class participants receive 15% off of any purchase made at Hillfolk on the day of the workshop.

For cancellations, or to switch a date, we require 72 hours notice before the start of your class in order to receive a refund or store credit. Please note that we cannot offer a refund OR store credit if you are within the 48 hour time frame. If you need to cancel a class or switch a date and the 48 hour deadline has not passed, please email us at info@hillfolk.com to do so and we are happy to help.

About our Teacher

Bea Apple (b. 1979, she/her) is the founder of Hillfolk, a former electrical engineer, and a longtime resident of Bentonville, Arkansas. She is a lifelong crafter and textile artist, with an extensive history of entrepreneurship and advocacy in the Northwest Arkansas community.

Workshop FAQs

We rely on an accurate attendance count to make important arrangements for our workshops. If an attendee needs to withdraw from a workshop, they must inform us in writing via email to info@hillfolk.com 72 hours prior to the first day of the scheduled workshop. Hillfolk will confirm the receipt of the cancellation within 2 business days.
No refunds will be available for cancellations made with less than 72 hours notice. Please take this into account when you sign up for a workshop.
Hillfolk reserves the right to cancel or reschedule any workshop for any reason, including canceling a workshop that does not meet minimum registration requirements or canceling a workshop due to inclement weather. If Hillfolk cancels a workshop, paid registrants will be given full refunds. Rescheduled workshop information will be communicated on the Hillfolk website.
