Surface Design: Natural Indigo + Shibori
January 15th, 2022
Join textile artist Olivia Clanton for an in-depth exploration in Shibori surface design techniques! Students will learn how to create six traditional Shibori patterns, an ancient Japanese resist dye technique. We will walk students through several designs and examples of each before being set free to create designs of your own. After students complete their sample swatches, students will get two cotton bandanas to experiment their favorite technique with. Other dyeables such as socks and masks will be available to purchase for future projects. You may also bring one small item of your own to experiment with, which must be of a natural fiber, preferably cotton. Dye aprons will be provided, there may be some drips so be sure to wear something you wouldn’t mind getting some dye on.
All class participants receive 15% off of any purchase made at Hillfolk on the day of the workshop.
