April Abstract Nature Patterns: Butterfly Wing Study Needle Felting Workshop with Dani Ives
Sunday, April 21st 2024.
Explore the beautiful and meditative art of needle felting and create a macro butterfly wing study with local artist, Dani Ives (@begoodnatured.) We’ll explore the art of Painting with Wool and learn two-dimensional, flat needle felting techniques for making versatile wool images. This workshop is inspired by the larger study of a leopard lacewing butterfly wing (seen in the photos.) I love how when patterns found in nature are magnified, they tend to take on a life of their own and can often appear abstract. That's what makes a macro butterfly wing study so fun--the close-up perspective turns a familiar subject into a blend of color, form, and texture that is open to interpretation.
All experience levels are welcome in this workshop. This class and craft is beginner friendly! Needle felting enthusiasts will also enjoy learning new perspectives and refining techniques. What you can expect in this workshop:
- An exploration of color and fiber blending techniques. Bring along a photo of your favorite butterfly, or use provided references to create your wing study.
- In-depth demonstrations on crafting textures and skillfully rendering just the right details to infuse depth and character into your artwork.
- A tailored supply kit that includes a felting foam pad, felting needles, wool felt background fabric, an array of wool fibers in your chosen colors, and an optional 5 or 6-inch embroidery hoop.
You can work at your own pace, and Dani will provide individual assistance as desired. You'll leave with your new felting skills, a finished wool painting, and the felting supplies kit you used in class. Join us and transform wool fibers into your own interpretation of a butterfly wing, turning the ordinary into a handcrafted abstraction that is uniquely yours.
