Exploring Indigo: Resist Painting + Shibori
Saturday, May 14th
Join textile artist Olivia Clanton for an in-depth exploration in Indigo surface design techniques! Students will learn how to paint resists and create six traditional Shibori patterns, an ancient Japanese resist dye technique. Olivia will walk students through several designs and examples of each before being set free to create designs of your own. After students complete their sample swatches, students will get two cotton bandanas or tea towels to experiment their favorite technique with. You may also bring one small item of your own to experiment with, which must be of a natural fiber, preferably cotton. Think about an item of clothing that is stained or lack luster!
Dye aprons will be provided (unless you want to join the blue hands club). There may be some drips so be sure to wear something you wouldn’t mind getting some dye on.
All class participants receive 15% off of any purchase made at Hillfolk on the day of the workshop.
