Join local artist, long time quilter and craft educator Olivia Mae Clanton (@olliesmae) on this journey in creating a handmade Quilt. Throughout the month of February, meeting each Saturday, Olivia will teach students how to successfully design, piece, block, sew, baste, quilt and bind a modern quilt from start to finish.

Students will learn all the traditional techniques of quilting and strengthen their technical sewing skills as well as hone their eye for design and color theory. Each student will make their own Log Cabin block, 9 Patch block, Half Square Triangle block, Courthouse Steps block, Sewing Curves and Sawtooth Star block.

By the end of the program, students will have created their own quilt from start to finish, build confidence, self-reliance and autonomy on the sewing machine.

Workshop requirements:

1) Students must have their own working sewing machine + appropriate thread to take this course. You are not required to know how to sew to take the course.

2) Students should bring at least 4 yards of fabric of their choosing (brownie points for up-cycling old clothing, sheets and other textiles)

3) It is highly encouraged- but not required- for students to bring their general sewing kits, quilting ruler, safety pins and notebook.

All other required materials for this workshop are provided including cotton batting, scrap fabric, rotary cutters, cutting mats, tape, sashiko thread, needles and 16 hours of expert instruction.

This workshop is suited for sewing beginners: teenagers to adults. Not suitable for children unless you want to bring your kiddo in to assist you in stitching!
