Grand Prismatic Seed Dyer’s Coreopsis
Also known as calliopsis, golden tickseed, or plains coreopsis, this wildflower is native to most of North America and Canada (with the exception, ironically, of Utah and Nevada).
Our population has a wide range of color combinations (all of which seem to make the native bees go wild!). It's always exciting to not know exactly what you are going to get until their adorable globe-shaped buds start to pop open! We've found that they do best when direct sown in early spring.
As for dyeing, oranges and browns are common colors from hot water baths. You can shift colors to a rusty red color with the use of a little soda ash. Best on wool or silk.
